An Ergonomic Chair Promoting Wellness And Longevity
We sit for much of our lives. Sitting in conventional chairs leads to stiffness of the spine and other parts of the body and has well known negative health consequences. Described below is an Ergonomic Chair concept that promotes good health and long life.
The Ergonomic Chair has a split seat and independently mobile segments for the lower, middle and upper back. Height of the cylindrical support tube under the seat is dynamically adjusted using pneumatic actuators in response to weight and position sensors changes detected by seat sensors.
Segments are connected using strong lever type struts with ball bearing joints providing multiple axes of movement.
There is a microcontroller managing the chair’s data network. The network offers control over segment movements and gathers data from sensors embedded in chair segments. Chair segments have pneumatically controlled tensioning elements that dynamically adjust according the seated individual’s weight and movements. Pneumatic tubes travel through cavities in the lever type struts connecting chair segments.
There is a compressor in the chair’s base charging a compressed air cylinder contained in the chairs support column. The chair mat acts as a charging pad when the wheels are positioned over charge points. The compressed air cylinder is recharged at night or when the chair is not in use.
Sensor types used include:
i) 60GHz mmWave Radar Sensors placed in lower, middle and upper back back chair segment for monitoring of Blood Pressure, Breathing and Heartbeat.
ii) 9-axis accelerometers placed in lower, middle and lower back segments as well as both halves of the seat
iii) weight sensor in each of the seat halves
iv) pressure sensor in lower, middle and lower back segments as well as both halves of the seat
Fusion of sensor data allows the microcontroller to dynamically control seat biomechanical characteristics. When a user turns the seat segments rotate and bend laterally to allow the spine, rib cage diaphragm muscle and other core elements to move naturally. Height of the central vertical cylinder is continuously adjusted to allow the spine to expand and contract and also provide stimulation to the lower legs and feet. Core Mobility is maintained, wellness and longevity are cultivated.
With maintenance of Core Mobility each breath becomes an engine-of-health promoting internal organ microcirculation, cardiac/respiratory function and pumping cerebrospinal fluid up the spine to the brain to nourish the brain and keep the brain’s fluid environment clean and free of toxins.
Users of the Ergonomic Chair will notice improved energy, less stress, improved immune function and will have a longer life span.
